November Beach Trip

Well, our travel continues... After 12 days in NYC we returned home for two weeks and left Friday for the beach. Little did we know just how much we needed the rest. David spent the time last week taking care of much needed stuff at work, and I spent the week helping my girlfriend paint her house while her hubby was out of town. We enjoyed teasing him by phone about the colors we were painting the house but after 3 very long, but fun days, she was able to show off her effort to her husband. It reminded me of the Proverbs 31 woman. With her husbands blessing she was industrious and productive and had the house smelling yummy (her specialty) and clean and beautifully decorated by the time he got back home. I was so impressed by her effort to keep within the budget and still make beautiful choices. I also love that her little ones saw her working so hard and learning how to paint. We had our four little ones around and had lots of encouraging conversations about our husbands and children and our desire to follow the Lord obediently in those areas. I was so grateful to David for allowing me to spend the days with her encouraging her and helping her make her house a home, no small sacrifice since it meant that most of the week I wasn't there to take care of the everyday things around our house or make meals. What a gift is was to come home to Floyd one night to a spotlessly clean kitchen and him folding several loads of laundry.
What a special ministry we have as women to spur one another on in love, and what a special encourager she is to me.
So now I'm sitting on my bed listening to the waves crash on the shore... this is a trip we almost didn't take because quite honestly our house sitter has seen more of our house than we have over the last 3 months. What we didn't know was how desperately we needed the rest and quiet and the permission to refuel. This is a short trip for us because we have to be home Wed for a church commitment, then David will be away for the weekend at a mens retreat. I pray he is filled with joy and fresh focus and energy from spending the weekend with the Lord and other godly men. I know he's especially excited about hanging out with Quigg, certainly an encourager of David's walk with the Lord, but even more than that just a best bud for him to hang out with for the weekend...something that because of their mutually demanding schedules doesn't often happen.
The children are also enjoying the trip to the beach. We spent the day today rollerblading after church and walking on the beach at sunset. Ryan insisted on taking his bogey board, and despite us warning him the water temps were going to be pretty cold he tried his best to enjoy surfing in the 3 inches of really cold water. He and Jessica played with Barney in the water for about 15 minutes and then decided it really was too cold to enjoy and opted instead to play in the sand. David and I sat on the shore watching them reminiscing about our first trip together to the beach when I reminded him that one of the 1st times he kissed me on the beach at sunset...

Love from,
From David, me, Jessica, Ryan and of course Barnabas...
